GIFTS-IN-KIND AND URGENT NEEDS

Families Moving Forward has an ongoing need for supplies for the families we serve. Please see below for a list of our most urgently needed items and read our donation guidelines for more information. Please keep in mind that we have limited space at our facility.

In-kind Donation Guidelines:

We do our best to help maintain the dignity of our families and only want to provide them with items that boost their confidence and self-worth. We ask that you help us do the same as you consider items you would like to donate. Please respect our in-kind donation guidelines and understand that items are subject to refusal.

Acceptable items:

  • New items

  • Gently used items you personally would consider using again

  • Gently used items you personally would not mind receiving

  • Some furniture items (Please note: We have limited space at our facility and can only take certain pieces based on family needs/condition of the furniture.)


Current Needs:

  • High Priority: Comforters- twin and full

  • High Priority: Cleaning Supplies: disinfectant spray, Pine-Sol, floor cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, toilet brushes, scrub brushes, sponges, hand soap etc.

  • Medium Priority: paper plates & plastic forks

  • Medium Priority: Personal Care Items (body wash, lotion, black hair care products)

  • Ongoing: Bath towels

  • Ongoing: Shower curtain liners, shower curtains

  • Ongoing: Dish detergent & laundry detergent

If you are looking to donate any of the items listed below that we do not accept, please view our list of community partners who may be able to benefit from your generosity.

  • Books

  • Clothing

  • Travel / Sample size personal care items

  • Glass items

  • Used bedding and towels

  • Used Car Seats

  • Computers and printers

  • Ripped/torn

  • Broken (not working)

  • Damaged

  • Rusted

  • Stained/unclean

  • Bakeware (Pie Tins, Muffin Tins, etc.)

  • Decorative Plates

Items we currently do not need:

  • Toilet Tissue

Community Partners

Diaper Bank of NC - (919)-886-8085

  • FMF receives diapers and baby wipes for all of our families from the Diaper Bank of NC. They are in need of baby wipes! Please consider donating directly to them.

 

Welcome Baby (https://www.welcomebaby.org/donate) - (919)-560-7150

  • Donations are accepted Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. They accept new and gently used maternity clothing, children’s clothing (ages newborn to 8 years), breast pumps (manual and electric), baby equipment (swings, strollers, and related accessories, bathing, feeding and bedding items). They also accept children’s books and puzzles.

The Furniture Project of Durham

  • Provides gently used, donated furniture free of charge to individuals and families moving from homelessness to housing.
