Our stories

The NEST (Neighbors Experiencing Success Together) is Families Moving Forward's Emergency Shelter Program for families with children in the crisis of homelessness. Watch to hear Tia's story. The NEST is our core program that transitions families to stability and self-sufficiency.
Branching Out encompasses the second phase of support Families Moving Forward provides after guests move into their own homes. We deliver services for up to 12 months after our families with children exit our emergency shelter program, making us better able to ensure our guests' long-term stability and prevent returns to homelessness.
The Children's Services at FMF are part of their two-generation approach to assisting families with children experiencing homelessness in Durham, NC. Whereas many programs tend to arrange parent-oriented and child-oriented programs into separate silos, two-generation programs seek to engage families in ways that knit together these services and address both groups simultaneously.
