Rock the Block Success!
On May 6th, we had our Annual Day of Service, Rock the Block. Together, with over 60 volunteers we finished staining the fence, mulched the entire playground, painted a beautiful new mural, and completed a lot of landscaping in the front. Check out our Photo Gallery of pictures from the event! Many photos were taken by Brad Hinkle, FMF volunteer photographer. Email Anna Krecklow for additional photo inquiries or to share more photos!
Thank you again to The Rock Shop, Sone Bros. & Byrd, Plants Unlimited, and Pinot's Palette for sponsoring our projects, and Southern Harvest Catering for providing lunch. Let's support our local supporters! |
SMILE Mobile Dental Clinic
“The SMILE Clinic is a mobile clinic operated by dental students at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. Our mission is to provide free comprehensive dental care to members of the community facing challenges to accessing dental care, such as those with financial, physical, and psychosocial barriers to care. We provide cleanings, fillings, extractions, and oral hygiene workshops to inspire, lift, and empower our neighbors for better health and quality of life." FMF has hosted two successful dental clinics for parents in our shelter. The clinic conducted x-rays, filled cavities, and extracted teeth for those who needed it. We are excited to continue this partnership each quarter. Check out their video here! |
May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Ashley Gilmore is a licensed therapist who supervises FMF's counseling intern and provides therapeutic support to our families. Christine Lutterloh is our counseling intern who has been integral in providing mental health support for our families. This is what they have to say for Mental Health Awareness Month.
Ashley: "Just as your physical and financial health is important, so is your mental health. Finding a qualified mental health professional to help you increase mental wellness through therapy is necessary for you to be a better, stronger person. Be sure to reach out if you feel you may be depressed, anxious or need help figuring out life. I promise, you will not regret it."
Christine: "Mental and emotional wellness is important to me because it impacts every area of life. Life already has plenty of ups and downs, hard times and bad times. When we are emotionally unwell, it makes it that much more difficult to navigate through it all. So, it is my goal to help those who want to uproot the traumas, negative automatic thoughts, grief, and addiction, to experience an abundant life that is fulfilling and rewarding."

We are hosting a bedding drive so families are welcomed to comfortable, new bedding when they move into our shelter. We are collecting full and twin size sheets, comforters, and pillows. We are also in need of bath towels.
